Another World Stood Here
Instrumentation: Ensemble Instruments: Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Flute, Piccolo
"Another World Stood Here" for flute ensemble (piccolo, five C, alto, bass and optional contrabass) by Howard J. Buss was composed immediately after an ancient oak tree was removed from his neighbor’s yard. The composer states, “The crew worked for several days to dismantle and haul away the enormous tree. I had lived next to it for a quarter of a century. The morning after they finished the job I visited the site were the mighty tree once stood and felt a deep sense of loss. It had become part of my life, and I reflected on how it served as home for countless birds and other animals, how it survived numerous hurricanes and lightning storms, and remembered the precious shade it provided during the long Florida summers. It is sorely missed. This work is dedicated to the memory of this ancient friend.” Because of its modest technical demands and musical sophistication, this audience-friendly work is appropriate for both intermediate-level and advanced flute choirs. (5’) Grade IV. Score and parts included.
