Oni is an evil ogre often found in Japanese folktales such as Momotaro (Peach Boy). This token villain is often depicted with one or two horns in its head, sharp long tooth, and red, blue or green skin color, and carrying iron clubs with thorns. In the stories, the Onis often burglarize humans and kidnap children, but they are always beaten by a hero in the end.
Performance Note: The scream of agony should not be high shrieking scream. It should be deeper and loud agonizing voice, and can be done by any member of the ensemble. Performers are encouraged to dress up as Onis for the performance, but not required. Please use the internet search engine for “Oni” or “Namahage” for ideas.
