Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis (2025) for flute and drum set by Howard J. Buss musically reflects on the human ability to significantly change in intellectual and spiritual ways. It is dedicated to the Windstruck Duo: flautist Ana Laura González, and percussionist Julie Licata. The five movements track one’s journey on the path to self-realization. Musically, they traverse a wide range of moods and sonic atmospheres.

Metamorphosis received its world premiere on March 28, 2025 by the Windstruck Duo at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. It is the sixth in a series of works for flute and one percussion by the composer that include Kaleidoscope (1988,) Wave Train (1990,) Sky Blossoms (1998,) Scenes from the Holy Land (2002,) and Stellar Visions (2005.)
