Meditations at Dusk

Meditations at Dusk for euphonium and harp was composed during 2024 for U. S. Coast Guard Band musicians, Patrick Nyren, euphonium, and harpist Megan Sesma. It received its world premiere by these musicians on January 12, 2025 at Colony Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. This work is in two movements. The first, Once, Long Ago, is permeated by a feeling of nostalgia and sweet, longing memories. Occasionally there is a slight tinge of sadness suggested by the music – sadness that the remembered times are far in the distant past and will never be experienced again. The second movement, In the Park, is a livelier and more buoyant “sonic dance” between the instruments. At the same time there are traces of the nostalgia lingering from the first movement.
