This tune first appeared in a book of Scottish songs compiled by John Sims in the year 1820. Shortly thereafter, Thomas Lyte claimed to be the true author of the piece and is most often credited as the original composer. The tune Kelvin Grove was based on the River that ran through Lyte's hometown in Scotland. It also goes by the name of 'Bonnie Lassie O'. The tune regained popularity in 1987 when John Bell and Graham Maule put words to the tune and retitled it as 'The Summons.'
