While the piece is in three movements (fast-slow-fast), calling it “traditional” does not seem entirely appropriate. Rather, it adapts received forms and structures with a more adventurous harmonic approach and a greater use of dissonance in individual lines.
Wes Flinn (b. 1973), a native of Pinhook, IN (pop. 19), holds degrees from Morehead State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has held teaching positions in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Ohio, Georgia, and Minnesota. Currently he teaches music theory and composition at the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he is also Coordinator of the Music Discipline. He lives in Morris, MN with his wife Amanda and two cats.
