Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble
Composer: Buss, Howard J.
Instrumentation: Solo and Percussion Instruments: Marimba, Percussion
Genre: Contemporary"Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble" by Howard J. Buss was composed in 2017 and is dedicated to Robert McCormick. The percussion ensemble uses 4 players. This work is comprised of 3 continuous, unnamed movements that follow a haunting and somewhat mysterious introduction. References to the opening phrases of the introduction are made throughout the composition. The first movement is in two main parts: The first resembles a chain of joyous episodes, each flowing into the next as the musical narrative unfolds. This gives way to a series of passages that become increasingly developmental. Obvious references to the introduction are interspersed with elements of the first section as well as new material. The second movement is in a lively 6/8. It is in ternary form features a substantial marimba cadenza in the central section. The finale movement revives the joyful character of the first and includes a short intense passage influenced by jazz before building to a rousing finish. (15’) Grade V. Learn More$48.00 -

He writes for the percussion ensemble with mastery and features a wide range of instruments. The sound landscape is rich with many moods and timbres. American Phoenix is an attractive addition to a solo program or as a feature piece for a percussion recital. It is rewarding for both performer and audience.” - The ITA Journal, January 2005 Learn MoreUpdate Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin. From $50.00

Collection of Works for Euphonium and Piano, A
Composer: Mantia, Simone Arranger: Renshaw and Mead
Instrumentation: Solo and Piano Instruments: Euphonium, Piano
Genre: Classical, Contemporary, Theme and Variationwith Piano
Simone Mantia is one of the most important euphonium virtuosi in the history of the instrument. His contributions to the euphonium repertoire are significant. A composer and arranger, Mantia recognized the need to expand the euphonium repertoire and was active in bringing the euphonium from the back of the band to the front of the stage as a solo instrument.
This solo collection presents modern editions of some of the most well-known pieces in Mantia’s repertoire. These editions are based on the materials found in the Simone Mantia Collection, a resource archived in 2009 by Gretchen Renshaw which contains many of Mantia’s musical possessions. Through collaboration with Steven Mead, Renshaw has aimed to correct the errors in the original versions of these pieces and provide editorial suggestions that will aid in exciting performances of these works.
The titles included in this collection are: Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms, Valse Caprice “Priscilla”, Rio Rita, The Southerner, Solvejg’s Song and Fantasie Originale.

Pomp and Circumstance No. 1
Composer: Elgar, Edward Arranger: Heading, Andrew
Instrumentation: Brass Quintet Instruments: 2 Trumpets, Horn, Trombone and Tuba
Genre: Classical, MarchElgar’s most hated piece – at least the piece that he came to hate – was the trio from this march, known by its more familiar title, “Land of Hope and Glory”. Of course, if Elgar had heard it performed by a brass quintet, he may well have started enjoying it again. Never mind, this piece is an audience favorite, and will really get the trumpets working together.

On the Wing
Composer: Vogel, Roger C.
Instrumentation: Duet Instruments: Alto Sax, Piano, Violin
Genre: ContemporaryViolin, Alto Saxophone and Piano: On the Wing for violin, alto sax and piano by Roger C. Vogel was written in 2013 and revised in 2017 for Rachel and Stephen Fischer. It was inspired by the thrill of flight, as well as that of being in motion, traveling, and being active. The intense energy of taking off, soaring, gliding, and diving is depicted in its musical gestures. The opening begins with ascending motives and progresses through contrasting sections that represent different aspects and emotions that are experienced in flight. As the work progresses these motives recur in various ways, with some surprises, until the final exhilarating coda. Cast in one movement of about 15 minutes in length, the violin, alto saxophone, and piano compete, complement, intertwine, and reflect on the musical ideas equally. Triptych for Solo Clarinet
Composer: Sterrett, David
Instrumentation: Solo Instruments: Clarinet
Genre: ContemporaryTRIPTYCH FOR SOLO CLARINET by David M. Sterrett is in 3 movements unified by similar compositional elements and motifs, but contrast in style and character. The first movement (Scherzo) jokes and jabs with jagged lines and snapping gestures. The second (Fantasy) is the emotional centerpiece of the work and contrasts the snarky character of the Scherzo with gentle lyricism and a melancholy tone. The third movement (Waltz) follows with its own unique style, a flashy and energetic waltz, joyous and playful in character. The music eventually builds up to a sudden and dramatic recall of the Scherzo’s main theme, bringing the piece full circle, and then ends in a wild frenzy. Brom Bones
Composer: Buss, Howard J.
Instrumentation: Brass Choir Instruments: Bass Trombone, French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba
Genre: Contemporary"Musically depicts the character and exploits of Washington Irving’s dashing prankster in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The musical ensemble consists of 4 Bb trumpets (an optional Eb part is included for trumpet 1), one French horn, 3 tenor trombones, one bass trombone and tuba. This entertaining composition is in 5 movements, the first 2 are interconnected: Overture, The Smoke Out, The Schoolhouse Caper, Ichabod’s Romance, and Night Encounter. Following the energetic and heroic Overture, in The Smoke Out tone clusters represent the buildup of smoke in Ichabod’s singing school. Chorale-like passages suggest the music of the singers in training. The movement ends in transition, as Brom Bones and his small band of pranksters gallop off to their next adventure. The third movement, The Schoolhouse Caper, combines very aggressive and topsy-turvy passages with humorous, plodding interjections. Ichabod’s Romance begins as a beautiful unaccompanied ballad which is abruptly disturbed by a cacophony of muted brass, suggesting the whining of Brom’s mocking dog. Beautiful hymn-like sections serve as the backdrop to heartfelt solo passages, which are again disturbed by Brom’s annoying dog. The movement ends as it began, with the beautiful solo. The intense final movement, Night Encounter, depicts Ichabod’s frightening and fateful run-in with the Headless Horseman, suspected by some to be Brom Bones in disguise."
