Zero to Sixty encapsulates the thrill of driving the fastest street-legal car in the world: the Tesla S P100D, which can go from zero to sixty mph in under two and a half seconds. It's Full of Stars
Composer: Darling, Steven
Instrumentation: Octet Instruments: Euphonium, Tuba
Genre: ContemporaryEEEETTTT
It’s Full of Stars was written in the spring of 2014 at the request of Jason Smith, to whom the piece is dedicated. The work, written for an 8-part tuba-euphonium ensemble, is in a repetitive-construct minimal style that incorporates a number of rhythmic motives that interweave and overlap to form an ever-changing texture. This morphing texture is at times dense and aggressive and at other times quite thin and apprehensive before it evolves into a new section. The title refers to the 1968 Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey. This piece is meant to represent and evoke a ‘sensory-overload’ and a feeling of awe. It’s Full of Stars was premiered at the 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Bloomington, Indiana, by the Ohio University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble.

In A Landscape
Composer: Darling, Steven
Instrumentation: Duet Instruments: Clarinet, Flute
Genre: ContemporaryIn a Landscape, written for Duo Cylindre (Andrea Vos-Rochefort and Lizzy Darling) for their debut album ‘Movers, Makers, and Shakers,’ was completed in September of 2018. Motivic contours illustrate the brutal relationship between humanity with the oft-unforgiving, nevertheless beautiful, midwinter environment. Harmonic reliefs and colors, interwoven by both performers, evoke an array of opaque and indistinct scenes, culminating in the triumph of nature over, and subsequent lamentation, of humankind.
