    Joseph Pinson, MA, MT-BC, born in Clarksville, Texas in 1937,  holds degrees in music from Southern Methodist University and the American University.  In 2013 he retired as Assistant Clinical Professor at Texas Woman's University, where he had been a member of the faculty since 1997.  From 1974 to 1997 he was Director of Music at Denton State School.

    Mr. Pinson is founding director of the Denton Bell Band that serves adults with intellectual challenges.  In 2009 he was awarded the Community Arts Recognition Award in Arts Education by the Greater Denton Arts Council.  In 2010 he was made an honorary member of the UNT Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and in 2013 was designated a Friend of Music by the
    TWU Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.  
    Mr. Pinson has written 100 songs and hymns that have been commercially published and recorded.   He is author of Involving Senior Citizens in Group Music Therapy, published by Jessica Kingsley and co-author (with Donald Michel) of Music Therapy in 
    Principle & Practice
    , published by Charles C. Thomas.
