  2. Downloadable - Tango Divertido

    Composer: Horne, Benjamin
    Instrumentation: Quartet Instruments: Euphonium
    Genre: Contemporary
Tango Divertido" is a work for euphonium quartet. Originally conceived for solo euphonium and piano, this piece intends for the four parts to all contribute to a single solo line. This idea is further accentuated in the cadenza section as all four parts trade off phrases that could otherwise(or if necessary) be a single soloist for the duration. This concerto grosso, of sorts, is inspired by the music of Astor Piazzolla with two distinct sections: one slow, one fast, and with the aforementioned cadenza separating them. Learn More

  3. Flight of the Bumblebee

    Composer: Rimsky-Korsakov Arranger: Oliver, Jonathan
    Instrumentation: Quartet Instruments: Euphonium
    Genre: Classical

Arranger Jonathan Oliver says, “Flight of the Bumblebee, written by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, was created as an orchestral interlude during Act 3 of his opera The Tale of Tsar Sultan. During this moment, a magical Swan-Bird changes Prince Gvidon into a bumblebee so that he can fly away to visit his father, who does not realize that his son is alive. The music has become more known as a virtuoso solo work for all forms of musical instruments and has even been included into other forms of media, such as film and television.

For this arrangement, I decided to divide the technical demand of the solo work into a quartet, with each part having no more than four measures of the melody at a time. The musical demand of the work now lies with the performers’ ability to make the faster sixteenth note patterns sound as a single line instead of four individual lines.”

The opera “Raymond” was premiered in 1851 and has long fallen out of the repertoire – however, its overture has become a favorite of light-classical audiences. It is a rousing work with beautiful themes, romantic flair, and stunning virtuosity reminiscent of a Rossini overture. This version was written for euphonium quartet with divisi options for a larger ensemble. It was written for and premiered by the United States Interservice Euphonium Choir under the direction of Brian Bowman at the 2012 U.S. Army Tuba-Euphonium Conference in Fort Myers, Virginia. Genre: Classical

A tour-de-force orchestral work especially for the string section, the Scherzo from Felix Mendelssohn’s (1809-1847) “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a fast, light exhilarating work depicting William Shakespeare’s fantastic play. As a euphonium quartet, it works well to feature the virtuosity of all four players as well as to exhibit the amazing, nimble quality of the euphonium throughout an extensive performing range.
