Lewis J. Buckley, a native of Florida, a 1969 graduate of Eastman School of Music, and a recipient of the Eastman Performer's Certificate for exceptional performance on the trumpet, is a talented performer, arranger, conductor and composer.

From 1969 to 1975 he served as trumpet soloist and arranger in The United States Coast Guard Band. In 1975, Mr. Buckley was appointed Director, a position which he held until 2004, by which time he had become the longest-tenured conductor of one of our premiere service bands in American history.

He conducted the Manchester (CT) Symphony Orchestra from 2004-2011, and he has conducted the Metropolitan Wind Symphony since 2007. He co-owns Cimarron Music Press with his wife Karen, and their business partner, Bryan Doughty. Lew has arranged, transcribed, and composed numerous works for bands, orchestras, chamber ensembles, and soloists, and he is in frequent demand as a guest conductor and clinician.

His solo pieces have been performed by John Huling (National Symphony Orchestra), Adam Frey, Oystein Baadsvik, David Werden, Dan Vinson, and Grady Hallman. Main Street Brass has commissioned brass quintets from him for both tours and recordings, and one of his Tuba Quartets was performed on Prairie Home Companion.

His music is not only imaginative and rich in the colors available to the wind composer/arranger, but it also reflects his more than 30 years on the podium - his pieces "work." His writing is well-crafted, imaginative, and, equally important, contemporary and challenging to developing ensembles. Most of all, Lew's music is enjoyed by audiences and performers alike.
